That’s exactly what Distinction has been offering since 2018, evolving with the beauty industry while staying true to its welcoming, client-focused approach. We caught up with Katie, the owner, to chat about her journey, what makes her work so rewarding, and how the Clarkston community has supported her through the ups and downs of running a business.

How did Distinction start?

While working at a salon after college, I had always dreamed of owning my own business. When the opportunity arose to purchase the salon where I had worked for five years, I took it. Although I didn't officially start the business from scratch, I've developed and shaped it into my own, keeping pace with the ever-changing beauty industry.

When did you launch, and what inspired you?

My venture began in March 2018. My love for working with and helping people, combined with the knowledge that I could do both in the beauty industry, inspired me to own a salon.

What’s your favourite thing about the job?

My favorite part of the job is making people feel better. I particularly enjoy doing facials, and knowing that I can help a client improve their skin or relax from life's stresses is incredibly rewarding. Facials can improve skin conditions, reduce stress and anxiety, and promote better sleep. It's always amazing to hear how I've helped someone in one way or another.

What do you love most about Clarkston?

There's a fantastic sense of community in Clarkston. Recently, when my salon caught fire, the outpouring of support from local businesses was overwhelming. There are also some fantastic shops and restaurants nearby, so everything you need is close by.

What’s been your proudest moment in business so far?

Being awarded Best Beauty Salon 2025 at the Glasgow Business Awards was absolutely fantastic and a very proud moment.

Anything else you’d love people to know?

Our salon is currently undergoing refurbishment. We're hopeful that by the summer we'll have a brand new, sparkling salon and can't wait to welcome new and old clients to see it.
